General

What is Decibel School of Music?

Decibel School of Music is a piano, keyboard, guitar and voice academy founded by Koushik Mukherjee. We've been teaching in-person in Bhagalpur, Bihar for five years, and now offer the same live, 1:1 teaching as online classes as well.

Do you teach both kids and adults?

Yes. Every course is taught to both age groups — teaching style, pacing and repertoire are adjusted to suit the student, whether they're a child just starting out or an adult picking up an instrument for the first time.

Do you offer offline (in-person) classes too?

Yes. Our academy in Bhagalpur continues to run in-person classes alongside our new live online classes — pick whichever format suits you at the time of enrollment.

🎹

Courses & Curriculum

What courses does Decibel offer?

We offer five tracks: Sing While You Play (vocals + keys together), Keynotes (regular keyboard/piano), Strumline (regular guitar), and two Trinity College London graded, certified tracks — Crescendo Keys (piano) and Crescendo Strings (guitar).

Which course should I choose?

If you want to sing and play at once, start with Sing While You Play. For structured, regular keyboard/piano or guitar lessons, choose Keynotes or Strumline. If you're aiming for an internationally recognised qualification, go with Crescendo Keys or Crescendo Strings. Still unsure? A trial class is the easiest way to decide.

Do I need my own instrument?

Yes, having access to a keyboard/piano or guitar at home is recommended so you can practise between live classes and get the most out of your course.

Can I switch courses or instruments later?

Yes — if you'd like to switch tracks or instruments, get in touch with our team. Transfers between courses are handled on a case-by-case basis.

💻

Live Online Classes

Are online classes really live, one-on-one?

Yes. Every Decibel class — online or offline — is a live session with a dedicated teacher. We don't use pre-recorded videos or group batches unless you specifically choose a group format.

What do I need for an online class?

A stable internet connection, a device with a camera and microphone (phone, tablet or laptop), your instrument, and a reasonably quiet space to learn in.

Which platform are online classes held on?

Classes are conducted over standard video conferencing tools. Your teacher or our team will share the exact link and any setup instructions before your first session.

Are online classes recorded?

Sessions may be logged for quality and teaching purposes, but classes themselves are taught live rather than delivered as pre-recorded content. See our Privacy Policy for details on how session data is handled.

🎓

Certification

What is the Trinity College London certification?

Crescendo Keys and Crescendo Strings follow a graded syllabus (Grades 1–8) examined by Trinity College London, giving students an internationally recognised music qualification as they progress.

Do I have to take the certified track to learn piano or guitar?

No — Keynotes and Strumline are regular, non-graded courses for students who want to learn without sitting formal exams. Certification is entirely optional, through Crescendo Keys or Crescendo Strings.

Are exam fees included in the course fee?

Certification/exam fees for graded courses are separate from regular course fees and, once submitted to the certifying body, are non-refundable. See our Refunds and Cancellations Policy for details.
