About the School

Five years of teaching.
One idea that never changed.

Decibel School of Music began as a small, in-person academy in Bhagalpur. Today, that same commitment to live, one-to-one music education is reaching students online — without losing the personal teaching that built the school.

Our Story

It started with a teacher, an instrument and a student.

Decibel was built around a simple belief: music education works best when the teacher can actually see, hear and understand the student in front of them.

Decibel School of Music was founded by Koushik Mukherjee in Bhagalpur in 2021. What began as in-person piano, keyboard and guitar lessons gradually grew into an academy built around individual attention, practical learning and steady progress.

Instead of building around crowded batches or pre-recorded lessons, Decibel chose a different model: one teacher, one student and one live session at a time.

Over the years, that approach shaped the courses we teach today — from Sing While You Play, Keynotes and Strumline to the graded Crescendo Keys and Crescendo Strings programmes.

The school has grown, but the principle has remained the same: students should not simply consume music lessons. They should make music, receive feedback, understand what they are doing and know what to work on next.

What has always mattered at Decibel

  • Live teaching rather than pre-recorded lessons
  • One-to-one attention from a dedicated teacher
  • Honest feedback and visible progress
  • Courses designed for both children and adults
  • Practical musicianship alongside structured learning

Why We're Online

Distance should not decide who gets to learn music.

For years, the biggest limitation on who could study at Decibel was simple: they had to be able to reach the academy in Bhagalpur.

Moving online changes that one limitation without changing the teaching philosophy behind the school. Students can now learn from wherever they are while still meeting their teacher live, receiving immediate feedback and following a structured learning path.

"We didn't want to trade the classroom for a screen. We wanted to make sure the screen never feels like a downgrade from the classroom." — Koushik Mukherjee, Founder

What going online means

  • Live video lessons with a real teacher
  • One-to-one instruction rather than crowded batches
  • Immediate correction and feedback
  • Structured courses for different levels and goals
  • Access to Decibel without needing to live in Bhagalpur
The Decibel Difference

Going online changes the location. Not the lesson.

The things that made Decibel work in a classroom are the same things we carry into every online class.
